July 2018
Last July 17th 2018, EBD's Doñana Monitoring Team observed a couple of Nile Geese (Alopochen aegyptiaca) rearing five chicks at the Doñana marshes. This was the first observation of a breeding couple of this invasive species at the Doñana marshes.
Nile Geese is included in the Spanish Catalog of Exotic Invasive Species. According to SEO-Birdlife's List of Invasive Birds of Spain, this species is of moderate concern - since "it has been observed to breed occasionally but there is no record of established populations" in the Iberian Peninsula or the Balearic Islands.
