First successful reproduction of the common tern (Sterna hirundo) in the Natural Area of Doñana after more than 30 years.

In this breeding season 2019 the Natural Process Monitoring Team has verified the successful reproduction of the common tern (Sterna hirundo) in the Doñana Natural Space Sector belonging to Cádiz, where its presence was already detected in the two previous reproductive periods.

In mid-June 2019, the Natural Process Monitoring Team observed in the Doñana Natural Area, specifically in Marisma de Hinojos, a specimen of Cream-coloured courser (Cursorius cursor). This wader is distributed in North Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia and the Cape Verde and the Canary Islands, where it lives in desert and sub-desert environments.

The electric vehicle joins the investigation in Doñana through the EBD-CSIC

Transport vehicles are an important source of pollution and initiatives have recently multiplied to favor the transition towards greater use of electric vehicles. The Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), through the Dioñana Biological Station (EBD), has joined efforts to implement the use of electric vehicles and reduce the pollution generated by their vehicles.

In the middle of last January, the Natural Processes Monitoring Team (ICTS-RBD) carried out the census of wintering birds in the Guadalquivir Marshes (Doñana Natural Area, adjacent non-protected areas and the Brazo de Este Natural Park).

Two years after its first appearance in the marsh of the Doñana National Park, the survey undertaken by the Doñana Monitoring Team (ICTS-RBD-CSIC) confirmed that the blue crab, Callinectes sapidus Rathbun (1896), is present in large numbers in the Brenes and Figuerola channels.
