Puntal tortoise monitoring campaing finished

This year, the sixth and last sampling day of the tortoise Testudo graeca graeca was on March 13th, in the area of “Puntal”, in Doñana National Park.
This protocol consists in three annual consecutive campaigns, repeated every decade, in which an area of 45 Ha at the Vera of the National Park is intensively sampled.
The objective is to detect population trends in a species in which these trends can be difficult to verify given the high longevity of the adults and the low survival...

Current situation of the blue crab (Callinectes sapidus) in the Doñana Natural Space.

"On last July 1-2, members of the Long-term Biodiversity Monitoring Team (ICTS-TBD) surveyed the fish and aquatic macroinvertebrates of Brenes and el Rompido Grande. This survey is part of the long-term monitoring of the aquatic ecosystems of Doñana Natural Space END). In these localities, we pay special attention to the populations of "jaiba azul" (Atlantic Blue Crab, Callinectes sapidus), an invasive crab originating from America that colonized the area recently (see post...

Doñana aerial surveys

Every month an aerial survey is carried out of the water birds present in the Guadalquivir marshes. This spring the flooding of the marshes has been unfavourable. Before raining started in April, the marshes dried up almost completely, making it impossible to flood the marshes completely during spring as they do during an average hydrological year.

Leatherback turtle rescue (Dermochelys coriacea) on the beach of Doñana National Park

On July 1, members of the Doñana Biological Station Natural Process Monitoring Team collaborated, together with environmental agents and technicians from the Doñana Natural Area and a team from the Underwater Rescue Unit of the Fire Service of Huelva, in the rescue of a specimen of the leatherback turtle (a species classified as Vulnerable worldwide), which was entangled in minor fishing gear in the Protection Area of the Coastal Sea.

Updated map of unique scientific and technical infrastructures (ICTS) published

The Doñana Biological Reserve (RBD), belonging to Doñana Biological Station (EBD-CSIC), joined the Spanish ICTS network in 2006.The term “Unique Scientific and Technical Infrastructures (ICTS)” refers to leading R&D facilities that, individually or by coordinating several installations, provide services for pioneering and top-quality research, as well as for the transmission, exchange and preservation of knowledge, transfer of technology, and promotion of innovation.
