The common water-clover in Doñana temporary ponds

The common water-clover in Doñana temporary ponds // El trébol de cuatro hojas peludo en las lagunas temporales de Doñana
This year, thanks to the winter rains (around 350 mm), temporary ponds were flooded in Doñana. During one of the visits to the ponds the Doñana monitoring team (ICTS-RBD-Doñana) identified the common water-clover (Marsilea strigosa), a rare aquatic fern that usually inhabits in ephemeral ponds with clear waters.

Population dynamics of the Iberian hare in Doñana

The Iberian hare (Lepus granatensis) is a widely distributed endemic species in the Iberian Peninsula. To improve knowledge of its population dynamics, the relative abundance and population trends of the Iberian hare were studied in the autumns of 1995–2012 in a protected area (Doñana National Park) by spotlighting in 2 different habitats: marshland and ecotones.

Spectacular number of waterbirds wintering in the Guadalquivir marshes

Nest decoration as a communication signal

Avian nests are frequently concealed or camouflaged, but a number of species builds noticeable nests or use conspicuous materials for nest decoration. In territorial species decorations may serve as extended phenotypic signaling of nest-site occupancy and social status to potential intruders. The latter may benefit both signaler and receiver by minimizing the risk of aggressive interactions. Here, it was tested whether nest decorations increased nest-site visibility to conspecifics in black...
