Record of wintering White-Headed ducks and Slender-Billed gulls in the Guadalquivir Marshes

Over the last twenty years, the Natural Processes Monitoring Team (ICTS-RBD) of the Doñana Biological Station carried out the mid-January census of wintering birds in the Guadalquivir Marshes (Doñana Natural Space, adjacent non-protected areas and Brazo del Este Natural Site).
The total number of birds counted has been much more modest than last year, 491,552 compared to 674,974 at the time (see previous news, 6 news), which was the highest number in the last 15 years. However, two...

First International Workshop on Glossy ibis (Plegadis falcinellus) held in Doñana

The first International Workshop on Glossy ibis has been organized by the Estación Biológica de Doñana (EBD) under the auspices of the IUCN Stork Ibis and Spoonbill Specialist Group (IUCN SIS SG) and in collaboration with the Tour du Valat (TdV), which has provided funding and organizational support. Insecticides in wild bird eggs

Recent studies demonstrated that the common pyrethroid insecticides are present in aquatic biota tissues. In this study, 123 samples of unhatched eggs of 16 wild bird species collected from 2010 to 2012 in Doñana National and Natural Park were analysed to determine 13 pyrethroids.

The common water-clover in Doñana temporary ponds

The common water-clover in Doñana temporary ponds // El trébol de cuatro hojas peludo en las lagunas temporales de Doñana
This year, thanks to the winter rains (around 350 mm), temporary ponds were flooded in Doñana. During one of the visits to the ponds the Doñana monitoring team (ICTS-RBD-Doñana) identified the common water-clover (Marsilea strigosa), a rare aquatic fern that usually inhabits in ephemeral ponds with clear waters.
