Confirmation of the usual presence of the blue crab (Callinectes sapidus) in the Doñana National Park

As a result of the monitoring of the tidal channels that connect the estuary with the Doñana marshland, carried out during the month of September - days 11 and 26 -, numerous specimens of blue crab (Callinectes sapidus) were captured again. In addition to confirming in this way the usual presence of the species in the Doñana National Park, these captures are interesting because it coincides with a decrease in catches in other areas of the estuary where the species begins to be commercially...

Doñana Biological Station participated in the “Diurned butterflies: learning about global change thanks to butterflies” meeting

The meeting “Diurned butterflies: learning about global change thanks to butterflies” was celebrated in the CENEAM (Valsaín, Segovia, Spain) from 25 to 27 September 2019. It counts on the participation of some members of the Working Group of monitoring of the Spanish National Parks Network, scientific people and other personal adscript to the Butterfly Monitoring Scheme in Spain (BMS-Spain).

The Mediterranean gull (Larus melanocephalus) breeds in Doñana for the second consecutive year.

In the breeding season 2018, the successful reproduction of a couple of Mediterranean gull (Larus melanocephalus) in the Natural Area of Doñana was verified for the first time. The Natural Process Monitoring Team of Doñana Biological Station (EBD) observed on a Veta la Palma pond a couple incubating in mid-May, which was not seen again later.

A dead white stork (Ciconia ciconia) founded in Doñana because of the intake of plastics.

At the end of June of this year 2019, a specimen of white stork (Ciconia ciconia) appeared dead in Marisma de Hinojos, inside the Doñana National Park. This data would not have more significance if it were not for the fact that he had in the digestive system a huge amount of plastic strips, which was the probable cause of his death.

First successful reproduction of the common tern (Sterna hirundo) in the Natural Area of Doñana after more than 30 years.

In this breeding season 2019 the Natural Process Monitoring Team has verified the successful reproduction of the common tern (Sterna hirundo) in the Doñana Natural Space Sector belonging to Cádiz, where its presence was already detected in the two previous reproductive periods.
