Erradication of invasive plants from RBD-ICTS.

March 2019

In March, volunteers from Adena / WWF have offered us their invaluable help to eliminate the invasive plant Oxalis pes-caprae, native from South Africa, from several sites of the Biological Reserve of Doñana (RBD-ICTS). This plant is included in the Spanish catalog of invasive species, which obliges the competent Administration to adopt the necessary measures for its eradication since it poses a serious threat to the native ecosystems due to direct competitive exclusion and soil enrichment, besides of being toxic for several herbivores. It was detected for the first time in the Biological Reserve of Doñana in 2013 and was probably introduced through reforestation activities.
