The meeting “Diurned butterflies: learning about global change thanks to butterflies” was celebrated in the CENEAM (Valsaín, Segovia, Spain) from 25 to 27 September 2019. It counts on the participation of some members of the Working Group of monitoring of the Spanish National Parks Network, scientific people and other personal adscript to the Butterfly Monitoring Scheme in Spain (BMS-Spain).
The main objectives of the meeting were to know more about current initiatives of butterfly monitoring in different networks in Spain and Europe with a special emphasis in the Spanish National Parks Network. It was identified the main strengths and weakness of the current monitoring method and it was also discussed about the utility of the datasets for the conservation and management of natural protected areas.
Doñana Biological Station (CSIC) presented the current dataset (from 2009 to nowadays) related to butterfly monitoring in Doñana Natural Space within the Doñana monitoring Program (ICTS-RBD-CSIC). Besides it was ratified the compromise to continue administered the BMS-Spain application, holding until now in Doñana Biological Station servers.
