7. 1. Land use:changes in land use and cover are monitored regularly, by comparing the thematic cartography published by the Andalusian Government (Mapa de Usos y Coberturas Vegetales, CMAOT) every 4 years since 1991. The cartography uses 112 land classes, 85 of which are present at Doñana Protected Areas. The first map was made in 1991, including all the variability of natural and anthropogenic vegetation cover, and water bodies and urban use. The comparison between consecutive maps is based on the generation of spatial transition matrices. See protocol and summary data.
7. 2. Biodiversity inventory:the biodiversity inventory aims at gathering and summarizing all the observations, whether systematic or casual, made in the Doñana region. It focus primarily on species occurences and may include a broad range of data sources, from anecdotic observations to systematic censuses, to historic field book records, to the analyses of images, videos or samples collected in monitoring surveys or scientific projects – and it is currently expanding to include citizen science.
7. 3. Singular and historic trees: Doñana’s catalog of singular an historic trees follows the criteria set by the Andalusian Government’s ‘Catalog of Singular Trees and Groves of Andalusia’. In a standardized survey carried out in 2000, in which 43 trees and 9 groves were selected, georeferenced and measured (basic dendrometry). These include trees of exceptional biological, historic or topographic value. New trees may be incorporated on at any time, but regular measurements of those included in the Catalog are done every 5 years. See protocol. See catalogs of singular, native and exotic trees.
